Commander, Australian Corps

General Sir John MonashCommander of the Australian Corps, he planned the attack on the Hindenburg Line and his diggers served as mentors to the Americans during the operation. Monash praised the doughboys for "showing a fine spirit, a keen desire to learn, magnificent individual bravery and splendid comradeship."
